My story

[p][/p][p]Hi [/p][p]thanks for visiting our page, 100% of monies raised will go to the PM research fund.  We have two vizsla girls Lola who is 3 years old and Spice who has just turned 2 years old. Spice was recently diagnosed with Masticatory Myositis  also known as  MMM, there also some abnormalitries in the joint fluid so the vets can not rule out PM( Polymyositis) at the present time, but we are hopeful that the Myositis will stay localised. The MMM effects the muscles in head and jaw - up untill a few weeks ago she had a feeding tube fitted in her neck as she was unable to open her mouth to eat.[/p][p]It is a genetic condition and was described to me as very similar to the breast cancer gene in humans  - as in it is inherited and some develpoe it, some carry it ( and can pass it on to off spring) and just dont have it. The vet informed us that it is usually brought on by a stressful/traumatic event ie first season, pregancy or in Spices case a closed Pyometra when she was 21 month old.[/p][p]MMM is an autoimune disease that alot of dog that have PM often suffer from aswell. [/p][p]The treatment is steriods - intailly a high dose that hopefully will be gradually reduced, over months with regular vet check ups. [/p][p]Spice has been through so much in the past 5 months , she has numerous tests, byopsies, CT scans and countless hospital stays. We are keeping everything crossed that Spice makes a ful recovery.[/p][p]Spices Dad Mark is going to complete the Woburn Abbey Triathlon on 11th september - hes ran marthons before and last year both girls were his training partners but this will be very different a 1500m swim followed by a 40k bike ride then a 10k run, Lola can help with the running but Spice will be watching from the side lines. [/p][p][/p][p]I will try and update this page regularly  [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
