Team story

[p]Hi, thanks for sponsoring our walk.[/p] [p]About our chosen charities[/p] [p]We're supporting two charities with this walk. The fundraising is split 50-50.[/p] [p]Ronald McDonald House Bristol[/p] [p]Alex's nephew was born with a serious heart condition and needed urgent care at Bristol Childrens Hospital (twice). He was rushed from Torbay to the specialist unit in Bristol to receive life-saving treatment. On top of the obvious critical situation, the family had no way of staying in Bristol which added a huge amount of stress, worry and financial burden. It's here that the Ronald McDonald House Bristol came to their aid.[/p] [p]Ronald McDonald House is an independent charity which is a home-from-home to the families of critically ill children. It provides free accommodation and its aim is to keep families together during what is probably one of the most stressful times of their lives.[/p] [p]Macmillan Cancer Support[/p] [p]We all know someone affected by cancer. One in three of us will have cancer in our lifetimes.[/p] [p]Personally, we have both lost close relatives to cancer and know how important it is that we have charities like Macmillan to support people and their families whatever the outcome.[/p] [p]Macmillan provide practical, medical and financial support to push for better cancer care.[/p] [p]About our walk[/p] [p]After a throw-away comment whilst stuck in a traffic jam on a long car journey about how "it would be quicker to get out and walk" - the idea developed that we would do just that.[/p] [p]London to Totnes - why?[/p] [p]We both live in London and previously lived in Totnes. We often drive the route to Devon, zooming past most of the countryside without time to take it in. The challenge of this long walk has always appealed to both of us as the ultimate "slow" journey to Totnes from London.[/p] [p]Why are we using Virgin Money Giving to collect donations?[/p] [p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p]
