My story

[p]Each year at Christmas, St. Mary’s Church Welwyn raises funds for those in a less fortunate position. In 2020 we ask you to support the Whitechapel Mission.[/p][p]It provides hot meals, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags to hundreds of homeless people. Winter is always the most difficult time for the homeless, especially this year when most other providers have had to close (including Crisis at Christmas). The Whitechapel doors will be open every day this winter as the numbers requiring practical help, not to mention a kind word or some advice, will be increased due to the current pandemic including its economic effects. [/p][p]“We served 223,354 meals in the last twelve months. But it’s about more than meals. By encouraging each person to address the issues which caused their homelessness, we help them to gain the skills and confidence to make lasting changes in their lives - We believe everyone deserves a chance, regardless of their background, race or religion - We are open every day of the year and expect to see over 400 homeless and vulnerable men and women every day. And we do this without public funding.” Tony Miller - Director[/p][p]£5.00 will feed, shower and clothe a homeless person for a day.[/p][p]£11.40 will buy a replacement birth certificate and allow a homeless person to get their identity back, and place their first foot on the ladder.[/p][p]£20.00 will give a new sleeping bag and roll mat to one person.[/p][p]£60.00 will fund a pair of socks and bar of chocolate for 60 people on Christmas Day.[/p][p]£100.00 will fund all costs for an advice worker for a day.[/p][p]Thank you in advance for your wonderful generosity – our gifts this Christmas really can transform lives![/p]
