Charity golf for Thymic Tumour Research

[p]Thanks for visiting my page, I’m raising money to fund research into Thymic carcinoma, a rare cancer which has limited knowledge and expertise available, which I have been fighting since October 2016. [/p][p]I had no idea I had cancer for 2 years, I thought the pain in my chest, back and breathlessness was me putting on weight and getting older. The anaemia I had was linked to me entering the menopause and poor diet, or so I thought. During this time my passion for playing golf became harder as the tumour had broken my sternum and spread to my lung and spine. A high pain threshold I later learnt was not helping me and I was misdiagnosed twice, but then there are less than 10 cases a year in the UK. [/p][p]The shock of hearing the word cancer was hard, but I am determined to fight on, having had several courses of chemotherapy and two major chest[b] [/b]operations in 9 months, currently the only treatment available, which I want to help change. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Thankfully I have been able to access vital expertise at Guys Cancer Centre but travelling to London to receive treatment is big effort. Thank goodness for my network of friends who have supported me so much through my journey and Greater Anglia staff who have been amazing. [/p][p]In order to kick start fundraising I asked for the help of my PGA Coach Sarah Bennett to organise a golf day inviting my friends of which the response was amazing. The day became filled within an hour![/p][p]Hopefully this page will provide others with the opportunity to donate vital funds should they wish.[/p][p][br][/p][p][b]Where will the money be going? [/b][/p][p][b]Thymic Tumours Research - Our ambition[/b][/p][p]King’s College London really need more support to advance research into better treatments for this type of cancer. My ambition is to[b] raise £20,000[/b] (both through our golf day and by this fundraising page) for scientists to trial new targeted and personalised immunotherapies to treat thymic tumours at Guy’s Hospital. My oncology team can then better help patients battling this terrible disease to have access to new potentially life-saving treatments instead of having to go through the trauma of receiving ongoing chemotherapy and surgery. Currently chemotherapy and surgery are the only options available to treat thymic tumours,without investment in research, less invasive therapies will continue to be out of reach of patients with the disease in the UK.[/p][p][b]How you can help?[/b][/p][p]Any donation made will make a difference and is gratefully received.
