My story

[p]PRIZE DRAW LINK[/p][p][br][/p][p]"I really hope I can make a difference, even in the smallest way"[/p][p][br][/p][p]On April 29th 2011, Miss Catherine Elizabeth Middleton married HRH Prince William of Wales at Westminster Abbey. It was a day of celebration and happiness and love. For their wedding, the happy couple asked well-wishers to donate to a selection of chosen charities, rather than send them gifts or money. Over the next 10 years, both William and Catherine have worked hard to make a difference, whether through William's work as an Air Ambulance Pilot, or Catherine's work in Mental Health, or through any of their other many projects. As we reach the 10 year anniversary of their wedding day, what better way is there to say thank you, than to help make a difference, even in a small way?[/p][p][br][/p][p]For me, the reason I'm doing this is far more personal. Without realising it, the Duchess of Cambridge saved my life - twice. This is my way of giving something back.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Over the next few weeks, from April 12th to May 11th, we will be spotlighting four of Catherine's patronages and raising funds for them. The money will be split evenly between the four patronages so there is no need to have to choose between them!! The chosen patronages are the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, Action for Children, East Anglia's Children's Hospices, Place2Be.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families[/p][p]The Anna Freud Centre's vision is a world where children and families are supported effectively to build on their strengths and to achieve their goals in life.[/p][p]They do this by:[/p][p]Carrying out research to improve understanding of mental health and resilience and to evaluate and improve the treatments and services children and families are offered.[/p][p]Developing new approaches, tools and services to support children, young people and families in distress.[/p][p]Teaching and training a new generation of professionals and researchers in the latest skills and tools to improve mental health globally.[/p][p]Taking a leading role in the development of policy and practice in the UK and beyond to ensure that it is built on science, tested experience and has the input of children, young people and their families.[/p][p]Collaborating nationally and internationally in partnerships which jointly develop a step change in child mental health and wellbeing.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Action for Children[/p][p]Action for Children's vision is that every child and young person has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.[/p][p]They do this by providing practical and emotional care and support, making sure the voices of children and their parents are heard, and by campaigning to bring lasting improvements to their lives.[/p][p][br][/p][p]EACH[/p][p]EACH aspires daily to lead the way in providing world class care for children with life-threatening conditions. Every child deserves support, alongside their families, whenever and wherever they need it. Their aim is to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of every child and family under their care, by providing individual and comprehensive services at all times.[/p][p]EACH hospices aren’t just about end of life care; they’re often very happy and fun places, where young people can live life to their full potential. They are places where families feel safe, at home and where they can spend quality time together, enabling parents to be parents not caregivers.[/p][p]Their family centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management nursing, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies, counselling and volunteer services in the family home; all meeting the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family.[/p][p]They offer families flexibility and control over where they receive their care and support, including where their child dies; at home, in hospital or at one of three hospices at Milton (Cambridge), The Nook (Norfolk), The Treehouse (Ipswich). More than half of our care and support is delivered in the family home and community, in surroundings familiar and comfortable for the family.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Place2Be[/p][p]Place2Be is a children’s mental health charity that provides counselling and mental health support and training in UK schools. Their tried and tested model is backed by research. They believe that children should not have to face mental health problems alone.[/p][p]Place2Be are committed to helping children with their mental health. Their approach to children’s mental health means they aim to intervene early to prevent life-long mental health issues.[/p][p]They provide support early to spot mental health problems before they develop and help children cope with challenges throughout their lives[/p][p]They use an effective therapeutic approach which is backed by research and combines several ways of working[/p][p]They offer a menu of different services, including advice and support for families and school staff, to build resilience and raise awareness of mental health across the whole school community.[/p]
