My story

[p]Help 5 brilliant young people complete their secondary education! [/p][p]WVP Kenya (UK) have teamed up with Lumakanda and Munyuki secondary schools in Western Kenya and identified a handful of promising students who are struggling to stay in school because of their inability to pay for fees and school-related items. They work hard to raise funds from well-wishers in their local communities and through manual labour! But it is not enough and every year they are forced to temporarily leave school :-([/p][p]We would like to give them a Christmas gift: A chance to complete their education and achieve their full potential! If you can spare £10, it will make a massive difference to them. [/p][p]Who are the young people?[/p][p]Janet Atieno is in form 2, she is 16 years old, and have lost both of her parents. She lives with three of her siblings. Her older brother dropped out of secondary school due to lack of resources, and her biggest fear is that she will be forced to drop out of school too. Janet needs £515 to complete her education.[/p][p]Simon James Lwangu is in form 3, he is 18 years old, and lives with his uncle. He lost his father at a young age and his mother is too poor to have him stay with her. He has been getting small bursaries from the school, but they are insufficient. This past year, he has been in and out of school, working the fields to generate money for his education. Simon needs £330 to complete his education.[/p][p]Laura Orissa is in form 2, she is 17 years old, and lives with her grandmother. She has lost both of her parents. Laura has a large extended family, but they are taking advantage of her vulnerable situation. Family members instruct Laura to spend school-days working in their gardens in return for food (not school fees). Laura needs £515 to complete her education.[/p][p]Maurine Makungu is in form 4 and 19 years old. Maurine comes from a very poor family and has been getting support from community well-wishers to reach form 4. Her local church pastor has been very supportive, but he has transferred to another community and no longer able to support Maurine. The school has been lenient, allowing her to attend school despite her inability to pay. This however means she owes the school money and will not be able to get her certificate (once graduating) until the arrears have been paid. Maurine needs £175 to complete her education.[/p][p]Mary Nafula is in form 2 and 14 years old. Mary lives with her mother and four siblings. Mary's mother is the sole bread winner of the family. Her father has passed away. As Mary's mother is trying to keep her four siblings in primary schools, she is unable to support the secondary education of Mary. Mary has relied on local well-wishers to stay in school, but the support has been piecemeal. Mary needs £475 to complete her education. [/p]
