[p]On 30 March 2019 on a sunny Spring day Alex suffered a cardiac arrest and died whilst out cycling in the Welsh hills that he loved.[/p][p]This memorial fund has been set up by the family to help CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death through supporting CRY’s screening programme.[/p][p]The aim is to fund the screening of young people within the local communities of North Wales.[/p][p]Alexander Edward Jones was born 27 September 1988 on the Isle of Anglesey on the beautiful, rugged north west coast of Wales.[/p][p]In his teen years his keen interest in motor racing saw him race in TKM karts, winning the prestigious British ‘O’ plate in 2006 before competing in British Formula Ford 2009-2011 and subsequently moving to the USA to test and race in Indy Lights.[/p][p]On his return to the UK in 2012 he took up competitive cycling, racing on road, cycle cross and time trials. 2013 was his first full season of racing during which he won the Great Orme RR at the end of the season. [/p][p]He raced for various teams including 4 Star Racing; Audlem; and VCUK. He enjoyed the camaraderie and more relaxed atmosphere in cycling. His proudest achievement in road racing was his win in the 2014 Avanti Gas 2 day race, winning both the final stage and overall winner. He regularly competed in the Crit races at Marsh Tracks, Rhyl and in his last race there at the end of 2016 lapped the field solo to win in an extremely impressive style. [/p][p]In February 2017 he started work as Digital Marketing Executive with an established cycling distributor in in Cornwall and regularly competed in local Time Trials at the weekends. Returning to North Wales at the end of 2017 he continued to compete in Time Trials throughout the North West achieving good results during the 2018 season which were capped with 3rd place in the Welsh TT Champs. [/p][p]He was particularly pleased with that 3rd place and followed it up with 16th place in the National 50 Champs, posting on Facebook “Pleased to nail my target of a top 20 in the National 50 Champs with 16th place on Saturday. Legs were terrible due to some mistimed man flu but just got real aero and did my best on the day. 👋 2018 you’ve been alright.”[/p][p]On 30 March 2019 at the age of 30 Alex suffered a cardiac arrest and died whilst out cycling in the Welsh hills that he loved. [/p]
