[p]Bill served as Trustee for Headway South Bucks from 2013. [/p][p]HSB is a charity helping people, and their families, who have suffered a brain injury. [/p][p]He brought his financial skills to the team and helped us to shape how we grew and developed over the last 6 years. [/p][p]Together we have grown from opening 2 days a week to three days a week. [/p][p]As a result we now help fifty per cent more people, offering a safe and non judgemental place for our members to come and develop skills diminished by their injury. In addition they can simply enjoy some social interaction with their fellow survivors. It is known that BI survivors are often ostracised and excluded from society. [/p][p]It can be very lonely living with BI and we know that our members benefit from being with others. Being safe and secure with us offers respite for their carers, who are able to enjoy a few precious hours away from their caring role. [/p][p]A large part of Bill’s role was to plan and track our budgets and ensure we were prudent with our money. Bill was often the voice of gentle and thoughtful opinion which helped us make the right (not always the easiest) decisions that keep us surviving, in the challenging economic environment that we face, as a small charity. [/p][p]Bill often shared a bit about his personal life at our meetings. [/p][p]From these conversations, I developed a full back story of a very committed family man who looked after grandchildren, did significant DIY in the French house (kitchen, flooring, woodwork?.....), helping his daughter move house and who loved Le Mans, cycling and dancing. [/p][p]We were all agog and rather envious when he’d ask to move a Trustee meeting, as he and his wife were off on a 1950s dancing weekend........I shall always remember his tip about Strictly Come Dancing. According to Bill, if the dancer had a long dress on, it was probably because her footwork was bad.... [/p]
