Story

[p]Thank you for visiting our page. [/p][p]As most of you will know 3 days after a straight forward birth Eli got extremely sick very fast. From then we were transferred from the maternity unit at the Vic to NICU and by that same night, to Intensive Care at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for specialist help. After just a few hours at Glasgow we very nearly lost him, however his fighting spirit shone through. He continued to get various tests, procedures, scans and medicine to try and reach a diagnosis to get him better. He was kept so comfortable during his time in hospital which allowed us to have a lot of nice times despite the nightmare we were in. Eli charmed everyone who cared for him (which was a lot of people) with his golden curls, tickly feet and piercing eyes. Eli was a wee warrior and tried so so hard, but on the morning of 23rd December 2020 we lost our boy at just 10 days old. Since then we have found out Eli was completely healthy in the womb and after birth, but he contracted an extremely rare, fatal infection at some point following his birth. [/p][p]We are going to be walking from the Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow to Eli's home in Dunfermline (44miles) on Saturday 4th September. The journey that we so wished he would be able to make but we will now do on his behalf. Our world has been completely shattered since loosing Eli and will be for the rest of our life's. However we received a great support whilst he was in the hospital and afterwards, which gave us the strength to be there for him and be his mummy and daddy; so we want to give back to the 2 charities that helped us and in turn it gives us a focus to make Eli proud. (And also laugh when he sees us at the finish line!) [/p][p]Ronald McDonald House Glasgow - the house provides completely free accommodation to any parents of sick children. This allowed us to be close to our boy and not have to worry about money for a hotel or travelling back and forth. The room also had a direct phoneline to Eli's room which was a great comfort. [/p][p]Together for Short Life's - the hospital put us in touch with this charity who sorted us out a parental grant to allow us to do something in Eli's memory. We used this to pay for his memorial bench, alongside money gifted from friends and family. [/p][p]Obviously these are charities so they rely on donations, and we feel extremely passionate about supporting them both. We know everyones situation is different but any donation is greatly received and will certainly make a difference. In the run up we will share updates of our training for the walk and will share our route so if anyone wishes to join us for a few miles along the way you can! [/p][p]Thank you, [/p][p]Phil and Jen. [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE. [/p][p]Hello! Thanks so everyone for the support so far.
