Story

[p]Our beautiful baby daughter, Eva Marie, was born 9 weeks early on the 6th February. She weighed a teeny tiny 3lb7, has long fingers and long toes, and has a full head of dark hair just like her sister Phoebe had at birth. She looks just perfect. [/p][p]Eva contracted CMV sometime between 11-16 weeks, after I had unknowingly had the virus myself. Adults and children generally fight the virus easily, often experiencing nothing more than a cold. To an unborn baby however, the consequences can be devastating. In an unborn child, CMV is referred to as Congenital CMV (cCMV).[/p][p]The Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU) at the John Radcliffe Hospital have been fantastic since the diagnosis, with lots of additional specialist consultant-led ultrasound scans, detailed tests and an MRI on baby whilst in the womb. [/p][p]Eva had been developing perfectly despite having cCMV, until at 27 weeks, cysts were discovered on her little brain. By 29 weeks these were more pronounced, and at 30 weeks they were larger still. Her brain was also a couple of weeks behind in its development than the norm. The way this brain damage would manifest post-birth was an unknown, however cCMV is known to cause very complex mental and physical disabilities.[/p][p]Baby Eva fought so so hard, yet the virus was too much. [/p][p]Please help us to raise funds to increase awareness and prevent others experiencing this pain.[/p][p]50% of whatever we raise will go to CMV Action. The remaining 50% will go to the FMU and Bereavement teams at the John Radcliffe, to help provide them with the tools they need to allow them to continue their fantastic work. [/p][p]Thank you for reading, and for your contribution.[/p][p]Ang & Tim xx[/p][p][br][/p]
