[p]Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. [/p][p]I am running the 2019 London Marathon to help raise over £2,000 for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation and specifically, for a very brave little boy call George Hatfield, who has just been placed on the liver transplant list.[/p][p]Last year, at just 6 weeks old, George Hatfield was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia. This affects 1 in 20,000 babies born in the UK each year. It is caused by the bile ducts in the liver becoming narrowed, blocked and misformed and leaves the liver unable to drain bile, thereby causing the liver to become cirrhotic and scarred. [/p][p]At 8 weeks old, George had his first life saving operation, but sadly this failed and he was recently made active on the liver transplant waiting list. He has had 20 admissions to hospital in his 14 months of life and continuously undergoes many painful treatments and procedures. He now also suffers from other conditions as a result of his poorly liver. [/p][p]The Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) has provided George and his family with valuable support through his chronic illness. They are advocates for organ donation across the UK and invest a lot time in research towards over 100 childhood liver diseases for which, as yet, there is sadly no cure.[/p][p]Donations are therefore very important as they help provide crucial funds to the CLDF to research and hopefully find cures for a number of incurable liver related conditions.[/p][p]Cheers, [/p][p]Danny[/p][p] [/p]
