[vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/489114474/"][/vmgvideo][p]To see what it takes to make Keech work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te8DRbDG1r4 [/p][p]I deeply appreciated the the support and care that surrounded us at the time of Greta's death in 2008. It didn’t make it any less painful, but feeling the love and connection of friends and family brought a sense of purpose to what unfolded, and helped us support Greta's journey in the best way possible. We were very blessed in that respect, and I’ve wanted to return some of that support in a practical way, ever since.[/p][p]So often people come to face their mortality for the first time at the end of their lives. It brings fear, loneliness and dependency that can diminish what quality may still be possible. It can be even more gruelling for carers. All at once they're required to be health experts, social security navigators, warriors and guardians of their loved ones, while at the same time facing the loss of their lover, friend and companion. Often they are advanced in years and in poor health themselves.[/p][p]And this is why I so love the work that Keech do . Their whole ethos is about making the most of what time is left. Offering something for the sick and their carers, where possible in the community and in their homes. There are just 16 beds (8 adults/ 8 children) in the hospice offered for the very last days. For the vast majority, the wonderful facilities are offered on a day care basis, frequently with volunteer transport provided. They have a health centre, alternative therapy rooms, expert staff who are able to navigate the social service maze (with clout!) , art and music therapy, beautiful gardens in which walks are regularly organised, they even have their own hydrotherapy pool. Children with life-limiting or terminal illnesses are wonderfully cared for. Parents who are going through the most challenging time are also offered love, care and respite. It is SUCH a positive place – not at all like you might imagine a hospice to be. And everyone there shares the same upbeat sense of support offered with a very full and happy heart. It's no wonder they’ve received so many accolades, including most recently the Queens Award for Voluntary Service .[/p][p]I had planned to offer some hypnotherapy and relaxation sessions to carers and staff, but for now that’s not possible. Despite the restrictions that Covid has brought, their work goes on.. And now more than ever cash support is vital, and its this piece that is so needed right now.[/p][p]SO PLEASE CAN YOU MAKE A DONATION (WITH GIFT AID) [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
