[p]This is a love story.[/p][p]At 1716 on the 9th January 2021, our beautiful baby girl, Jade Peacock Nash, was born.[/p][p]We had 10 glorious days with Jade thanks to the life-saving efforts of the amazing team of nurses and doctors on Lewisham Hospital maternity ward. The team worked furiously for half an hour to resuscitate Jade after her heart stopped immediately after birth. They literally saved our little girls life.[/p][p]We decided to name Jade after the strong, amazing and brave midwife that delivered her. Jade's middle name given to her by big brother, Elijah, whilst in mummy's tummy.[/p][p]After such a long period without oxygen to her brain, the prognosis was every parent's worst fear. Jade was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Evelina Children's Hospital. Again, the team of nurses and doctors worked to provide specialist intensive medical care, to stabilise and make Jade comfortable. The team at Evelina afforded us time to spend with our Little Peacock. Creating memories, sharing tears and laughter, singing songs, reading books, hands wrapped around fingers and tickly little toes. Granting us exceptions to the extremely strict restrictions due to Covid-19.[/p][p]On Monday 18.01.2021, Evelina arranged for Jade to be transferred to Demelza Hospice Care for Children. Being at the hospice allowed us to introduce Jade to her big brother Elijah for the first time. Jade also got to meet her grandparents, aunties and uncles. More memories and more love.[/p][p]Just after 4pm, Jade's ventilator was removed and for 18 hours, we were just a normal family. Lying lazily in bed, Jade on Claire's chest, skin to skin, watching a film, eating biscuits. No ventilators, no incubators, no tubes or wires. Just parents enjoying the warmth of their newborn baby and their beautiful 4-year-old boy.[/p][p]At 0958 on Tuesday 19.01.2021, lying peacefully on Wayne's chest, Jade took her last faint breath.[/p][p]For the next 4 days, Demelza gave us a place to be as a family, whilst Jade laid in rest. Demelza cooked our food, did our laundry, played with Elijah and supported us not only with the formalities of bereavement but emotionally, accommodating our tears, our anger and our grief.[/p][p]The love, support and compassion extended to us by the amazing people working at each of Lewisham and Evelina Hospitals and Demelza Hospice showed a side to humanity we are truly grateful to have received during our darkest hour as a family.[/p][p]We want to show these people the same love they showed us by supporting them in Jade's memory. [/p][p]We want them to be able to access the wellbeing support they need to stay strong and resilient so they can manage emotionally and psychologically with the impact of their work. [/p][p]We also want to pay it forward, so that if ever a family finds themselves facing their darkest hour, they are met with the same love, care and compassion that insulated our family.[/p][p]We would also like to thank;[/p][p]W. Uden & Sons Family Funeral Directors[/p][p]Remember My Baby - remembrance photography[/p][p]Ketchup on Everything[/p][p]Most importantly, we thank our amazing friends and family for supporting and walking alongside us.[/p][p]All our love,[/p][p]Wayne, Claire, Elijah & Jade (and Waffle, the dog) xxx[/p][p]We ask you do not send flowers please. [/p][p][br][/p][p]-----------------------------------------------------------------------[/p][p][br][/p][p]The Flying Peacocks Marathon Challenge[/p][p]On the 3rd October, we are running the 2021 London Marathon dressed as peacocks in memory of our beautiful baby girl.[/p][p]We want to celebrate Jade and her life - our hope being to share her story of strength, love and compassion.[/p][p]Claire will be attempting to run the marathon less than nine months after giving birth to Jade.[/p][p]Wayne will be attempting to run 4 marathons in 21 days:[/p][p]12th September - Brighton Marathon[/p][p]19th September - The Little Peacock Marathon*[/p][p]26th September - Goodwood Marathon[/p][p]3rd October - London Marathon[/p][p]*The Little Peacock Marathon is our own very special event - the route follows Jade’s physical journey in life, starting at University Hospital Lewisham onto Evelina Children’s Hospital in Central London, Demelza Children's Hospice in Eltham, on to Honor Oak Crematorium, before circling back to finish at University Hospital Lewisham.[/p][p][/p][p]All funds raised go to supporting the wellbeing of staff working at University Hospital Lewisham, Evelina Children's Hospital and Demelza Hospice, Care for Children.[/p][p][br][/p][p]------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/p][p][br][/p][p]Connect with us[/p][p]Website :[/p][p]Email :[/p][p]Twitter : @wayne_flanagan @nashcakes08[/p][p]Instagram : @wayneflanagan_ @clairenash8[/p][p]#theflyingpeacocks #run4Jade #letkindnessbeyourlegacy[/p]
