[p]This morning, Wednesday June 9th, Mark Daniels, my amazing husband, was cruelly taken by an aggressive cancer that knew no boundaries. [/p][p]After battling with 6 months of hospital stays, tests and no obvious answers; and being told it was not cancer - well - it was. By the time we were diagnosed on March 19th it was too late for Mark and he was given weeks to live. His cancer was so rare it was almost impossible to detect from the usual sources. Thanks to Kings in London we eventually knew Mark's fate. Mark suffered from cancer in the lining of the blood vessels, an angio sarcoma, which fatally affected his liver and his lungs.[/p][p]I would like to pay tribute to the Hepatology department in Exeter and to all the staff for their support during the undiagnosed time. I would also like to publicly say a massive thank you to the Exeter Oncology Centre, and in particular, Dr Stephens, for his time, support and concern over Mark.[/p][p]Whilst Mark needed palliative care straight away, I needed support tailored for me as his carer. This was provided by our local cancer support - FORCE - completely for FREE. The team were absolutely there for me and have helped guide me through the darkest of days. Yes I work there - but I have experienced their love, concern, support and really sound advice from a personal perspective now and, from a professional perspective, they have been absolutely amazing.[/p][p]For Mark, his palliative care was set up seamlessly via our local East Devon Hospice@Home service. The ladies there worked around the clock to support Mark and me and no words can ever express the thanks we have to them and how they helped. They have played an incredibly important part in our final days together. To that end, I am making a personal cheque to the Hospice and see this as a private gesture. [/p][p]What I am asking people reading this to do is dig as deep as you possibly can and donate to FORCE today. Why - not because I work there - but because there are so many individuals, couples and families going through a cancer diagnosis right now and they will need support. FORCE needs your donations to ensure we have the teams in place to visit the wards, talk to patients during chemotherapy, sit and have a cuppa with those in need, offer advice, a listening ear and guiding arms throughout their journey. Their support really is priceless.[/p][p]Please support with as much as you possibly can and make Mark proud. This is really important to me, that we help the next people in need, so THANK YOU.
