Story

I am currently riding 10 x Cent Cols Challenges: 1,000 cols. Two have now been completed. [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]I am fundraising for the London BMX project which is part of Access Sport. This is a fantastic project, giving ‘no-future’ kids a new perspective on life through dedicated commitment to teaching kids sports skills through which they can discover self-esteem and a positive outlook on their future.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]You can follow me on Instagram here and on Facebook here.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Every riding day I will be posting news (you can follow on Instagram without having an account: just go to my Instagram.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Why Access Sport?[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]In 2016 this charity was granted the largest sum of money yet given to one single project by the William Wates Memorial Trust for whom I worked as lead rider, from 2010 – 2016, on six Tours de France.   The WWMT has always been focused on projects that build foundations for a better world, through helping young people to change their « negative survival » lives into shining examples of what is possible.[lt]br /[gt]The London BMX Legacy Project is a perfect way to address the problem of the oppressive nature of inner-city life for so many youngsters. Here’s why :[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]•    It requires little space, investment or maintenance[lt]br /[gt]•    It offers a safe and controllable environment as an alternative to cycling on the streets.[lt]br /[gt]•    It requires kids to learn a real technique and thereby attain self-esteem, which is the key to a positive attitude to learning in general.[lt]br /[gt]•    A session of 45 – 60 minutes is often enough both for a learner and the more advanced. It has been relatively easy to get schools to include a BMX session in their curriculum, with a clear, positive impact on overall classroom performance.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt] [lt]img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/BIQlnuS8o6gdBKWzVP0OozPZ7sfgkyoBiFXPD1z6WzcAzK9e6gBv-RZKDOQAZETb6qsDL7KOoaLNrYHElgYFoFhzEgnwwXEV0F_cqs4SxdMAVxnZXsIBOOHTxu_XaLVu_CNNClmkZ4BOHe9uPVZ6uvG1149F0llgmuUYTbie4uI8dtI4r-iu-jhIl21lwR2nYkduMroxLhGEw1WFDTB6kR0mBeJmGe_bo2A5TBmxlHp1kVSaagHU50JxuI1Gq6PMni45CrcY2fAK1eHmyq2uPnZGh1FQZaBAiPA3i_wTRVZxc13iL97V5QLZEHaNdr7Okt5Pc7jZI8MCgWAWFqdFn9G-mWBirZIqBWgDxaAWlUKjQ8j9PN4f06TbkYDiiE2vcyLhVecLwx-red4DE6L6xJN_xfBMGF9tLaQDBeSXkucnpSCIbebyRiKy4G1AMglJqdwirAFqL5bbYdNdop3h5wy2qpfg9Ae49VeJOfKKWaaNii-dC5zo9NXQq1oQt8D5IrbrIhlcWOUGEu3xTn17nZ5Tu6nRyc7aRROndzg2rL7z-1Mv5DKeQemoNySkI_TWwWOo6nAobDO8RER8LIvW4Os8LUodM8f7B5_kPPhbyH4jcp5ZHsNiy5w70UfBpnmotBJ2eiMAGjP_UhrWfS3GJ5kszjpHKunT6vp4_NkCUQ=w794-h510-no" alt="" width="623" height="400" /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]An Expresso for Filipo - how we are going to raise even more than the £20,000 target :[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Set up an ‘Expresso-for-Filipo’ pot at work or at home so that every time you have a coffee ON THE DAYS THAT I AM RIDING, you ‘buy me a coffee’ too.  [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]You can send in the collection from time to time,  (the amount can start at £15) each time mentioning the name of one of my 180 ‘co-riders’ (for every £100 raised in his/her name he/she earns a CCC raffle ticket with an Amaro CCC frame ‘n forks and a set of Noble CCC wheels as prizes.)[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]THIS IS IMPORTANT: as long as the fundraising stays on target I will symbolically buy myself just ONE expresso per day to thank you (I drink no coke, take no caffeinated gels - this will be my ONE caffeine hit of the riding day), BUT if we fall below target, I will not allow myself this treat ! (If we double the target, I get TWO per day : one in the morning, the other for the ‘Yawning Hour’, after lunch.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]See here the full list of riding days : currently we are ON TARGET ( £1 per kilometre ridden)!! THANK YOU for your generosity. It will mean more and more to me as the ride goes on.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][span=text-decoration: underline;]The Ride of a Thousand Cols[/span] [lt]br /[gt]19,480 km / 464,880 m[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]21 May to 31 May [lt]br /[gt]1 – 100  Corsica : 1,830 km / 36,100 m COMPLETED[lt]br /[gt]4 June to 14 June[lt]br /[gt]101 – 200  Appennini : 2,060 km / 44,000 m COMPLETED[lt]br /[gt]18 June to 28 June[lt]br /[gt]201 – 300  Dolomites : 1,900 km / 52,000 m COMPLETED[lt]br /[gt]1 July to 11 July[lt]br /[gt]301 – 400  Vosges-Jura-Black Forest : 1,950 km / 43,000 m COMPLETED[lt]br /[gt]15 July to 25 July[lt]br /[gt]401 – 500  Northern Alps : 1,880 km / 48,000 m COMPLETED[lt]br /[gt]29 July to 8 August[lt]br /[gt]501 – 600  Southern Alps : 1,940 km / 44,700 m COMPLETED[lt]br /[gt]13 August to 23 August[lt]br /[gt]601 – 700  Cevennes-Massif Central-Ardèche  : 1,900 km / 36,700 m [span=font-weight: bold;]COMPLETED[/span][lt]br /[gt]27 August to 6 September [lt]br /[gt]701 – 800  Eastern Pyrenees : 1,990 km / 44,300 m [span=font-weight: bold;]COMPLETED[/span][lt]br /[gt]10 September to 20 September [lt]br /[gt]801 – 900  Western Pyrenees : 2,040 km / 50,400 m [span=font-weight: bold;]COMPLETED[/span][lt]br /[gt]24 September to 4 October[lt]br /[gt]901 – 1000  Cantabrico : 1,990 km / 46,200 m COMPLETED[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]
