Story

[p]Give the gift of eduction[/p][p]After 10 years of generous support, helping us provide more than 1,000 children with a life-changing education, our previous scholarship donor has changed strategy, discontinuing their support of small organisations (like ours). While we have managed to support most of the children to the end of their education, we still have 6 young people who have either one or two years left of their University education. We need your help to give Samuel Otieno Deya the gift of education. [/p][p]About Samuel[/p][p]Samuel is 23 years old studying for a degree in medicine and surgery at the University of Nairobi. He is the first born in a family of two children. Samuel and his brother were left orphaned after the death of their parents in the late 1990s. He then moved in with his maternal grandmother, while his younger brother moved in with their aunt. While Samuel's grandmother was able to keep him in primary school, she could not afford to take him to secondary school. He was identified by a local community group as deserving of support, and we (WVP Kenya) got him onto our scholarship programme. We paid for his tuition fees and related expenses for attending Maranda, a secondary boarding school. Samuel did exceptionally well at his final year exams, finishing 48th out of 417,000 students nationally. In 2013, and with the continued support of our scholarship donor, Samuel started on medicine at the University of Nairobi. [/p][p]Cost of his education[/p][p]Annual fees are £200 (he is heavily subsidised by the Government of Kenya because of his outstanding exam results)[/p][p]Monthly subsistence, covering food and accommodation, is £55[/p][p]Total cost of his two remaining years at the University of Nairobi is £1720[/p][p]Please give what you can by clicking the donate button above. Any little amount will be helpful. [/p][p]If you are able to sign up for monthly giving, and donate £5 or £10 a month for the two year period, please click here. Do send me an e-mail (m.skovdal@wvpkenya.org.uk) once you have signed up, and I will add the amount manually to the donation page.[/p][p]With many thanks, [/p][p]Morten [/p][p][br][/p]
