[p]Update: Thank you so much for your support. Should you choose to donate, please select the "Add Gift Aid" option where possible as it adds an enormous 25% to your donation at no additional cost to you! I can’t believe the challenge is now complete.[/p][p][br][/p][p]"I am going to run 5km every day for one year, starting on Sunday 1 July 2018"[/p][p]It sounded good when I first said it. I have always known that the debt of kindness must be repaid. [/p][p][br][/p][p]5k for £5k [/p][p]In September 2014 my Grandad, Derek Cridge, sadly passed away as a result of lung cancer (caused from asbestos). St. Margaret's Somerset Hospice provided a level of care and compassion that has stayed with me ever since. I cannot imagine how much harder things would have been without the hospice.[/p][p]I recently met with St. Margaret's to learn their costs of care. I have a breakdown which is allowed to be shared publicly (so ask me if you would like it). During the meeting it became clear that I need to raise approximately £5,000. And thus the 5k for £5k challenge was born.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The challenge[/p][p]Well, you've guessed it! The challenge is to run 5k every day for one year straight (there's no small print). I am not a runner and anyone who knows me will know that. I have ran 5k before and found it tough. Therefore, it's something I feel need to beat - a real challenge. Information on how I will record my progress is in the FAQ section.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The final run[/p][p]Sunday 30 June[/p][p]10am[/p][p]Longrun Meadow, Taunton[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you in advance for your support, it means the world to me.[/p][p]Ritchie[/p][p][br][/p][p]Here's where you can follow my progress:[/p][p]Twitter[/p][p]Instagram[/p][p]Fitbit[/p][p]Strava[/p][p][br][/p][p]The one FAQ:[/p][p]Q: How do I know if you have ran the 5k today?[/p][p]A: I will be tracking my progress via Fitbit and Strava GPS, the results will be uploaded automatically every day to the social channels linked above.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Fun facts:[/p][p]First 5k time was 33:43 - current personal best is 22:29[/p][p]In total I will be running 1825km (that is the equivalent of London to Rome)[/p][p]1825km = 1134 miles = 43.25 marathons[/p][p]I have been on the radio 3 times to discuss the challenge[/p][p][br][/p][p]Largest donations: [/p][p]Anonymous - £365 (a pound for every day)[/p][p]Business - £300 (Eloquent Technologies)[/p][p]Person - £200 (Jeremy Gainsford)[/p][p][img][/img][/p]
