Story

[p]Traci was a caring person who loved. She loved her friends, she loved her family and above all she loved her animals. Our house is almost like a zoo. Since I met Traci, we've had dogs, cats, lizards, a tortoise, guinea pigs, hamsters and most recently pygmy hedgehogs. When I first moved in with her we had 7 dogs and 3 cats between us.[/p][p]Traci was taken ill in December of 2018 with Influenza. A week later she was hospitalised in Leicester Royal Infirmary. We all thought she would be out in a few days and everything would be fine. After spending a week in an induced coma on a ventilator she was transferred to the Glenfield Hospital where they have a specialist ECMO unit. Only a few days later she was placed on life saving ECMO treatment.[/p][p]We visited her every single day, she had some good days and some not so good days. Most of the time she was sedated but there were a few days here and there where she was able to be awake and able to respond to us in some small way even if she could not speak due to the treatment she was receiving.[/p][p]She spent almost 4 weeks on ECMO and during that time we got to know many of the doctors and nurses on the unit quite well. We also got to know some of the other families who had patients there during that time and shared our painful experiences with each other. We were even able to take one of our dogs in to visit her many times.[/p][p]Traci did manage to recover enough to be taken off ECMO at this point and she seemed to be doing quite well. We were hopeful that she might make some kind of recovery however this was not meant to be and Traci suddenly took a turn for the worse the next day and passed away on the 6th of February 2019 with her closest friends and family there to support her to the end.[/p][p]Traci was aged 45 and none of us had any idea that the flu could do this to someone who was previously a healthy person who rarely suffered any kind of illness other than the odd headache.[/p][p]As a tribute to the love that Traci gave us, I think it fitting that this page be set up to raise money for the dogs trust and the Leicester hospitals.[/p]
