[p]I will be trekking the Great Wall of China in May 2018.  I am raising funds for the Manchester Royal Infirmary.  My aim is to raise £3,000 which will be donated to the Dementia Care Fund (629655) at MRI.  [/p][p]I am doing this trek in honour of my grandad's memory.  My grandad was born in 1924 in Manchester.  He served his country in the Royal Navy during World War 2.  He then worked for Manchester City Council's Highways Department until he retired.  He married in 1946 to my grandmother and had 4 daughers.  My grandad was a real family man, his family meant everything to him.  During the last years of his life my grandad suffered with dementia, at which time there was little if no help.  This is the reason why I am choosing to do this walk to help others who suffer with this terrible disease.  [/p][p]The trek is over 5 consecutive days and covers over 25km of wall.  The first day will comprise of a 3 hour trek as a warm up, but the following days include trekking for over 7 days per day. The trekking on this challenge is apparently very hard, due to the amount of steps we trek up and down each day – it can sometimes take an hour just to trek 1km.    We also have to conquer the 1,000 steps up to the wall at Mutianyu.  This is by no means an easy trek which is why my target fund is set quite high.  [/p][p]My trip will be organised by Global Adventure Challenges who facilitate the raising of funds for charities by arranging overseas challenges and adventure trips. Anyone joining their trips to raise monies for nominated charities must raise at least the minimum fundraising target as applicable to their chosen trip. The cost of the trip is paid by the charity out of the fundraising monies raised and the remaining fundraising monies are kept by the charity concerned.[/p][p]This means that a proportion of the monies I fundraise will go towards the cost of the trip and the remainder will be given to Manchester Royal Infirmary Charity.[/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p] [/p][p] [/p]
