[lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]My name is Nathanael Lee and I have cancer. In early 2016, at the age of 21 and having recently graduated from university, I was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s lymphoma in my neck, chest and spine. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Just when I thought my life was beginning it has suddenly changed into a series of illnesses, hospital treatments, drugs and the constant worry that these might not work. My life and the lives of my family have been turned upside down while we try and find a solution.  [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]An awful lot has happened in the last 12 months.  I’ve had two biopsies, countless scans and four different chemotherapy regimes.  Add to this vertebroplasty (cementing) of three of my vertebrae and the necessity of changing hospitals to follow possible treatment options. I’ve also had an appendectomy to remove my appendix half way through one of the chemotherapy treatments. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Although we’ve made some good progress treating my neck and back, the cancer mass in my chest is refusing to give up without a fight.  Having tried numerous chemotherapy options my consultant now wants to try a new treatment.  Using a drug called ‘Nivolumab’ he hopes that he can stimulate my own immune system enough so that it recognises and kills the cancer itself.  If this is successful then I will undergo stem cell replacement with one of my sisters as a donor. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Unfortunately ‘Nivolumab’ is not available on the NHS for Hodgkin’s patients.  This is where I need your help.  I’m hoping to raise £50,000 which we hope will fund between 16 and 20 weeks of Nivolumab treatment, along with all the blood tests, pet scans and other peripheral costs. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]The Tom Bowdidge Foundation have been supporting me and my family over the last couple of months and they have kindly offered to help with our fund raising.  With the Tom Bowdidge Foundation we have established a restricted fund where we can fundraise for my treatment.  Any surplus unused funds will go back to help other teenagers and young people with cancer just like me. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Please can you donate to this fund raising page and help me get the treatment that I so desperately need to kick this cancer into touch.  Every donation, however small, will help me and other young people with cancer. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on our behalf.[/p][p] [/p][p]Thank you.  [/p][p][p][p][p][p][p] [/p][p]Read about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma here:  http://www.macmillan.org.uk/information-and-support/lymphoma/lymphoma-hodgkin [p][p] [/p][p]Read about UCLH Teenage/Young Adult Centre here: https://www.uclh.nhs.uk/OurServices/ServiceA-Z/CYPS/CYPCS/Pages/Home.aspx [p] [/p][p]Read about Nivolumab here: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1411087 [p] [/p][p]Read about The Tom Bowdidge Foundation here: http://www.tombowdidgefoundation.org/ [p] [/p][/p][/p][/p][/p][/p][/p][/p][/p][/p][/p]
