The Raby family has been closely involved with the sea for many years. Starting with lighthouse keepers, then ships pilots and Royal National Lifeboat Institute RNLI crew. Our great grandfather, Herbert Raby, was Coxswain of Barrow Lifeboat and his son, our grandfather Richard Raby, was crew of the lifeboat. The tradition continues to this day, with many of the latest generation of Rabys enjoying sailing and kitesurfing. [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]When our mother, Pauline, married our father, another Herbert Raby, she embraced the lifestyle and enjoyed sailing, first dinghies and then yachts. In later life she loved spending time at the family&rsquos beach hut at Lee on Solent. She lived her last months in a wonderful care home overlooking Southampton Water, where the family used to sail. [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Pauline was also a staunch supporter of the RNLI, running a local Southampton branch and enthusiastically fundraising for the charity. RNLI gifts were a key ingredient of family Christmas stockings![lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]The family had personal experience of the RNLIs skills when, in 1980, Pauline, Bert, Philip and Lorna were helped by Swanage lifeboat after their yacht suffered a broken rudder in bad weather.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Any donation you are able to make will be most appreciated. As well as helping a very worthwhile charity, it will be a fitting tribute to a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Thank you for taking the time to read this. [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]With love from [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Richard, Philip, Paul and Lorna[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]
