Donors questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions from our donors. If you can't find your question below, please get in touch.

Virgin Money Giving is open to all UK charities. As long as they’re registered with Virgin Money Giving you’ll be able to make a donation or start fundraising for them.

Yes. We’ll send this to the email address you give when you make your donation. If you chose to 'Continue with Facebook' when you make your donation, we’ll send your email to the primary email address on your Facebook account.

If you've made a donation and can’t find your email receipt, don't forget to check your spam or junk folder - we’ll send the emails from theteam@virginmoneygiving.com.

The fundraiser you've donated to will be able to update your message. All they'll need to do is sign in to their account, go to the 'My fundraising' page and choose 'Donation history' from the Options menu. On this page, they just select 'Edit' for the donation they want to change.

Donor Covers Fee

Charities use websites like Virgin Money Giving to provide a safe and simple way to give online. Donor Covers Fee is a feature giving donors the option to cover the fees we charge a charity for providing this service.

We don’t make a profit from what we do, but we do need to charge a small 2% platform fee and a 2.5% payment processing fee to keep developing our service and supporting charities.

Covering the fees mean 100% of your donation will reach the charity, making an even bigger impact.

We let you know how much a charity will be charged to process your donation, so you can decide if you want to cover these fees.

If you do opt to cover the fees, we take this fee when you pay, along with your donation and pass on 100% of your donation to the charity.

We don’t make a profit from what we do and covering the charity’s fees means your donation will make an even bigger impact.

Yes, if you set up a new regular payment from 1 September 2019 you can opt into Donor Covers Fee and cover 100% of the charity’s fees. Existing regular donors who set up their regular payment before 1 September 2019 will need to cancel their current regular donation and set up a new one to opt into Donor Covers Fee.

Research tells us that donors often welcome the opportunity to pay the transaction fee incurred by their charity when using fundraising services, in order to maximise the amount received by their charity. The Donor Covers Fee option is pre-ticked to make the journey as quick and easy as possible. Donors can of course choose not to pay the fee at all key points in the donation journey.

No, unlike some platforms, Virgin Money Giving doesn’t take a fee on Gift Aid it collects on behalf of charities. It offers this service for free so there is no transaction fee to pay.

Not at all, we’re simply giving donors the option to cover the fees we already charge a charity.

We don’t make a profit from what we do and covering the charity’s fees means your donation will make an even bigger impact.
