2020 Virgin Money London Marathon Announcement

The Virgin Money London Marathon is far more than just a marathon, it brings society together in a moment of celebration of all that is good about humanity. This year, a year like no other, it will be a London Marathon like no other.

As we heard today from the team behind this iconic event, The 40th Race will take the spirit of the world's greatest marathon to every corner of the globe, with runners raising vital funds for the charities that have been so severely affected by the economic effects of the pandemic.

The race can't happen on its usual iconic route this year, but everyone with a place in the 2020 event will have a chance to run in future years and still take part in The 40th Race in 2020 by running the famous 26.2 miles from home or anywhere in the world on the course of their choice.

You can run, walk, take breaks and will have 24 hours to complete the 26.2 miles on Sunday 4 October. This is your chance to take part in a London Marathon your way. All finishers will receive the coveted finisher medal and New Balance T-shirt.

We will write to you in the coming weeks about our exciting plans to make this a day to remember, as well as sharing practical tips and ideas for how to turn this into a unique fundraising opportunity.

The money you have raised so far for charity is already making a difference, as we send the money you have raised to your charity each week. By taking part on 4 October and running in a future year you can continue to help the causes that are important to you.

Your fundraising page for The 40th Race will remain open for you to keep raising vital funds, so you don't need to create another page. If you also decide to take on a future London Marathon, we will help you create a fundraising page for that event when we're told what event you are taking part in.

Your road to running the streets of London might be longer than most, but you will run it. But before you do, let's make 4 October a part of the journey and day to remember.
