How To Fundraise For Charity Online - Our Top 5 Tips

5 top tips for fundraising with Virgin Money Giving

How to start fundraising online

While raising money for charity is undeniably rewarding, it’s also easy to feel overwhelmed by the prospect of putting yourself out there to fundraise. That’s why through Virgin Money Giving we make it really straightforward to create your fundraising page and to get your fundraising underway. Simply follow our five simple steps to get started.

1. Pick the charity you want to support

Whether big or small, choose a charity that is close to your heart; having a personal story about how they have helped a friend or loved one, or how the charity has helped you or your community, will help to engage your supporters even more and encourage them to want to be part of your fundraising story.

2. Choose a fundraising event or a personal challenge

Want to take part in an organised event? There are lots to choose from including marathons, midnight walks, cycle events and even treks. Or you could even think about taking on a unique challenge and set up your very own, such as sitting in a bath full of beans or shaving your head – the list is endless.

3. Create your fundraising page

It’s always a good idea to set up your fundraising page as early as possible. So as soon as you’ve chosen your charity, be sure to set up your Virgin Money Giving page – five easy steps is all it takes – and ensure you make your fundraising page brilliant to smash your target. And because we’re a not-for-profit organisation, more of your donations go directly to your chosen charity.

4. Get fundraising

As soon as your fundraising page is set up, start sharing it. It’s really easy to share your page on social media and via email. Don’t be shy to reach out to friends, family and colleagues, as the more people who are aware of your cause the better. It’s a really good thing you’re doing and sharing positive messages generally gets a positive response – especially when people see the effort you’re dedicating to your chosen charity.

5. Visit the Fundraising Hub and be inspired

Virgin Money Giving has a dedicated Fundraising Hub, which is free for everyone to use. From top fundraising tips to inspirational fundraising stories, you can find lots of great ideas to help keep you motivated and focussed on achieving your fundraising target. We’re constantly adding new content to the Fundraising Hub, so why not bookmark it as one of your favourites and keep popping back to see what’s new.

Have you gone the extra mile to inspire more people to donate? We’d love to hear your story and top fundraising tips on Facebook and Twitter.
