An update on my marathon journey

Hi everyone,

So much has happened over the past month, including having my birthday which was another first without Dad which I found a lot harder than I thought I would. Mum has got worse and we are now looking at getting her moved into a flat where she has others around her and feels a little safer – as you’d imagine it’s so hard to witness this all over again. She is so behind me with my fundraising and marathon journey though and I also think it’s giving her a focus, as much as it is me.

My training has taken a little bit of a stumble and over the past few weeks. I’ve developed fluid in my knee, which has forced me to keep my runs to short ones. I’m taking strong anti-inflammatory medication and attending some physio appointments – injuries are just so frustrating while training.

It’s been a tough few weeks emotionally and with my injury I was starting to get really disheartened that I was lagging behind and not getting the training in. To improve things my oldest friend came to visit and she is also running the marathon for dementia revolution. We went out for a long run together which really helped as she is amazing and so supportive. She has been in my life such a long time and thinks the world of my Mum and Dad, knowing she is right beside me on this journey is awesome and we have already said that we’ll need to have lots of tissues with us on marathon day!

My fundraising is well under way and I have a charity pub quiz night planned for 13 April. I’ve already sold 50 tickets and there are only 10 left until we’re sold out, which is just fantastic! I’m trying to get raffle prizes together now and the local newspaper has confirmed they are interested in covering my story, which is great. I have a couple more ideas for fundraising and I will keep you updated with how I get on with those.

I’m also trying to keep up my positivity and focus by teaching my weekly Boogie Bounce class in my Dementia Revolution top.

It’s a mixed roller-coaster of emotions training for a marathon and getting the fundraising right, but just remember we are all in the same boat and there are going to be ups and downs.
