Important information

We have made the decision to close Virgin Money Giving (VMG) later this year. A subsidiary of Virgin Money, VMG was created 12 years ago when Virgin Money began its sponsorship of the London Marathon. This year the sponsorship comes to an end. As a result VMG will stop operating on 30 November 2021 following the race in October.

VMG was launched with the ambition to provide charities and fundraisers with a not-for-profit alternative to other fund-raising websites. We’re incredibly proud to have delivered on this ambition, helping over 20,000 charities and more than a million fundraisers raise in excess of £900 million.

Charity Q&A's

Our website will remain open until 30 November 2021 when we will stop accepting donations. You should consider the steps you will need to take to register on another online fundraising platform in the future. There are many other online platforms available so to help you get started we have included a link to an article summarising some of the options. Platform fees, site functionality and costs vary so please give yourself time to find one that suits you.

If you have recently registered you can continue to collect donations up until 30 November 2021. We will refund the registration fee to any charities who have signed up to VMG since 1 January 2021. We're aiming to complete all refunds by 30 November 2021.

We will still collect and send Gift Aid up until our final closure date of 18 February 2022. Gift Aid reclaim can be made up to one year after a donation has been made and therefore you may have Gift Aid outstanding which you will be able to claim directly after our closure.

There will be no regular donation payments taken after 30 November 2021. You should contact all your regular donors who currently use VMG to encourage them to continue to make their donation by an alternative method. To run a report of all your supporters so you can contact them easily, see Q&A below ‘How do I access my supporter data?’

You will be able to download your reports until our closure date, which we expect will be 18 February 2022. We recommend that you download and save these reports so you can access the data after VMG has closed. Reports are available on regular donors, donations we’ve paid to you and your fundraisers. You can access these by logging into VMG and using the online portal.

You can use VMG for events and fundraising up until 30 November 2021.

If your fundraising is expected to continue after this date then we would advise you contact your fundraisers and propose they use an alternative platform. You can find your fundraisers’ details in your Charity account and clicking on ‘New Reporting BETA’ from the navigation menu. Here you can run a ‘Fundraising pages’ report, selecting the time period to search.

This will produce a spreadsheet with all pages created and you can find your fundraisers’ names in column AU. Continue scrolling to see the postal address and email address in column.

You can also close an event by logging into your VMG account. This will stop any new fundraising pages being created. Please visit the VMG website for further information on managing your events.

Here’s how you can download your data easily so you don’t lose touch with your fundraisers and donors.

To get started:

  1. Log into your account.
  2. Click ‘Reporting’ from the main page.
  3. Select the type of data you need – ‘Fundraising Pages’ or ‘Donations’ will give you most of your supporter data.
  4. Select your date range - you can select up to three years’ worth of data in 12 month periods, or you can choose any pre-set timescales from the drop down menu.
  5. Download your report in CSV to give you the full data. This will give you a detailed report of your supporter data, which you can filter to get more specific details.
  6. If you’re unsure what some of our data items mean, you can check out our Data Glossary.
  7. If you need to go back further than the last three years, get in touch with our helpdesk and we’ll be happy to help.
